ISV Mitglieder züchten bedrohte Schildkröte nach
As our czech friends and Members Petr Petras and Hynek Prokop report, on May
13th, 2007 their first captive bred Heosemys depressa hatched. This asian turtle
species is considered very rare and is even more rarely bred in captivity. Even
for zoos this event is something special. Currently the Atlanta zoo is also
hatching this species:
Report
Due to the lack of data from nature and the fact that the Arakan Forest turtle
was long time considered extinct, it is especially important to collect data
from captivity to establish an in-situ conservation program. We wish our
colleagues all the best and hope for further good news from them!
By the way: The animal hatched after over 4 months of incubation on moist Vermiculite at 27-28°C, 5 more are to come!
